Your routine dental checkup at Skyline Dental Associates is absolutely critical for maintaining good oral health. This is even more true if you have an oral health issue, such as tooth decay or gum disease. Some people who struggle with dental anxiety will procrastinate setting an appointment to get the quality dental care they need.

It’s important to keep in mind that dental anxiety is a recognized psychological condition. It is a condition where a person experiences heightened stress and anxiety before and during basic dental procedures. Here at Skyline Dental Associates, we have seen many patients over the years who have struggled with dental anxiety and we have a few insights to share to help you cope with it.
Luckilly, we utilize the following forms of sedation dentistry in our office in Ottawa, ON:

• Oral sedation: This process is just what it sounds like. You take some oral sedatives before you arrive at our office. Then when it’s time for your treatment, you’re relaxed and ready.

• IV sedation: If you have truly serious dental anxiety, IV sedation is the method for you. It allows the dentist to deliver sedation immediately, and easily adjust the level of sedation throughout your procedure. You may fall asleep while under IV sedation.

• Laughing gas: This is a very mild form of sedative gas you inhale during treatment. It wears off very quickly after the flow of gas is stopped.
